This year at Honeywell Users Group, Eric LeBlanc (Lin & Associates VP) will be conducting a session titled "Crude Unit Upgrade Project" on Tuesday June 15th. Session overview: A legacy TDC2000 DCS platform was upgraded to the latest generation of Experion (Release 310). The project consisted of full documentation of the controls schemes and logic prior to migrating the controls to the new platform. The complex loops and logic schemes were subsequently dissected/removed for unusable/old operational loops. Migrated loops were identified with Operations input and new complex loop designs were implemented to make use of the new function blocks/algorithms available within the Experion System. The DCS upgrade was completed during normal plant operation (hot cutover). New tagnaming standards were employed as well as implementation of an Alarm Management scheme during the commissioning phase. Lastly, graphics were migrated from GUS to Experion using Lin and Associates Advanced Graphics Package.
